ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
August 4, 1944 –
We have a day of remembrance.
A tip from a Dutch informer led the Gestapo to an Amsterdam warehouse, where they found and arrested Jewish diarist Anne Frank, her family, and four others after nearly 2 years of hiding.
Anne’s diary was found and saved, and eventually as published in 1947, two years after her death in a concentration camp. It was translated from its original Dutch and first published in English in 1952 as The Diary of a Young Girl. It has since been translated into multiple languages.
